Ninja training to kick off in Mossman

By March 19, 2018March 28th, 2018No Comments

A MODERN gymnastics trend that embraces techniques born out of military obstacle training has made its way into Douglas Shire.

Mossman & District Gymnastics Club has added a new accredited gymnastics program called “FreeG Ninja & Warrior”, which includes parkour, free-running, tricks and tumbling.

Club Manager Hayley Bender has invited the public to have a go at this adrenaline-fuelled freestyle sport for free this month.

Douglas Shire Council Mayor Julia Leu said it was a fantastic opportunity for the region’s youth to get active doing something completely different.

“These Come and Try days will give our boys and girls a chance to try heart-racing freestyle sports in a safe, indoors environment,” she said.

“Council is proud to support this grass-roots sports club in trying something new and engaging with our energy-filled youngsters.”

The Game On DS2018 – Come and Try! Project is delivered under the Queensland Government’s Embracing 2018 Legacy Program for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and funded by the Australian Government.

Mrs Bender said several club coaches have become qualified to run the Gymnastics Australia accredited program.

“FreeG blends acrobatic tricks and traditional gymnastics, opening up a whole new area for our sport,” she said.

“It follows the popular modern trend in tricking, parkour and freestyle activities. FreeG is such a great opportunity for boys and girls to get involved in this exciting, new recreational program.”

Game On DS2018 – Come and Try!” FreeG will be held at Pinjarra Place, 3-7 Mill Street in Mossman on March 24 and March 27.

Those wishing to participate are urged to RSVP by March 21.
