DOUGLAS Shire children have an opportunity to hit the ground running.
A FREE Come & Try Day at Mossman High Oval will be held on Friday afternoon to encourage youngsters to have a go at athletics.
Douglas Athletics is hosting the track and field trial day for children as young as three-years-old.

Douglas Shire Council Mayor Julia Leu said it was the perfect opportunity to get involved before the Commonwealth Games kicks off next month.
“The world’s best athletes will be coming to our state and the buzz around watching them compete will inspire plenty of young athletes,” she said.
“You never know, Douglas Shire could be home to the next Sally Pearson or Mack Horton.”

The Game On DS2018 – Come and Try! Project is delivered under the Queensland Government’s Embracing 2018 Legacy Program for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games and funded by the Australian Government.

Douglas Athletics President Christine Callander said the club was about family, fun and fitness. “Athletics is definitely a fantastic family sporting event,” she said.
“In a relaxed atmosphere our athletes rotate around a variety of track n field events competing against their own personal best.
“Our tiny tots program encourages children to get involved in track and field events, while introducing them to fun games to build on their skills.”
The club holds regular presentations to celebrate successes.

Game On DS2018 – Come and Try!” Douglas Little Athletics will be held at Mossman High Oval from 3.30pm until 5pm on Friday, March 23.
