The Douglas Shire community is invited to come together this Saturday (September 20) to celebrate the official opening of the Port Douglas Splash Park.

The new community space at Jalunbu Park, Garrick Street, has been shaped by extensive community input and made possible through a $2.53 million contribution from the Queensland Government.

It features interactive water play elements inspired by the rainforest, reef and Mossman Gorge, offering a safe and inclusive environment for children and families to enjoy.

At 10:15am, Mayor Lisa Scomazzon will officially launch the Splash Park by activating the water features, before inviting the crowd to dive into the fun and enjoy the first splash together.

She said the park is expected to become a major drawcard for locals and visitors alike.

“It’s more than just a place to cool off – it’s a celebration of our surroundings and a space for families to connect, play and make memories,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

“We’ve had a few quiet trial runs behind the scenes, but Saturday’s official opening is when the real celebration begins.”

The official opening will feature:

  1. Live DJ music
  2. Bubble Lady and Sea Circus performances
  3. Daintree Ice Cream giveaways

Later in the evening, from 5pm to 8pm, the community is invited to experience Splash Park After Dark — a special event showcasing the park’s choreographed water fountains and coloured lighting, designed to delight both children and older visitors.
