Douglas Shire Council is reminding residents to remain prepared this wet season after the recent weather system passed well south of the region.

The Douglas Shire experienced no significant impacts and all Council services have continued as normal. Although this system did not affect us, it provides a useful opportunity for households to review their wet‑season readiness.

Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the near miss was a timely reminder for the community.

“This system passed us by but the next one might not. It’s a good prompt for everyone to make sure their wet‑season plans and supplies are in order,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

“A few simple steps now can make a big difference when conditions change quickly.”

Residents are encouraged to take a moment to check the basics:

• Make sure your pantry is well stocked with a few extra essentials
• Ensure your generator is working and fuel is stored safely
• Clear gutters and drains around your home
• Store filled sandbags somewhere dry and out of the sun for the remainder of the season
• Keep the Douglas Dashboard bookmarked for local updates

“Staying prepared is one of the simplest ways we can look after ourselves, our families and our neighbours throughout the wet season,” Mayor Scomazzon said.
