One of Port Douglas’ most popular wedding locations has become an even more attractive place to tie the knot following the completion of upgrade works at Little Cove.

Council said “I do” and remained committed to a series of improvements on the waterfront, including a new garden entrance to Little Cove and new sprinklers at Rex Smeal Park to help keep our love of green lawns alive all year round.

Douglas Shire Council CEO Scott Osman said the upgrades further enhanced the area for weddings, events and everyday community use.

“Port Douglas is renowned as a wedding destination and the upgrade at Little Cove means the space continues to present beautifully for couples, visitors and the wider community all year round,” Mr Osman said.

Shobha Cameron (pictured right) from Port Douglas Weddings said the recent upgrades were welcomed by her industry.

“Little Cove would be the second most popular ceremony location in Port Douglas after the iconic St Mary’s by the sea chapel,” Shobha said.

“It’s wonderful council have made improvements to Little Cove, weddings support numerous local jobs and bring many people to our little town from all over Australia. The recent works completed at Little Cove will help ensure Port Douglas continues to be a standout destination for couples wanting a tropical wedding.”

Neighbouring Rex Smeal Park — a popular location for wedding photos, picnics, sightseeing and fitness — will stay green year-round thanks to the installation of a new irrigation system as part of separate upgrade works.

Mr Osman said the upgrades would benefit both residents and visitors who regularly use the popular foreshore area.

“These improvements ensure the precinct remains welcoming, accessible and enjoyable for everyone,” he said.
