A TRANS-Tasman rivalry will be reignited when Olympic Triathlon hopefuls battle it out over two Oceania Championship and Cup events in Port Douglas this June.

Australia and New Zealand’s top triathletes will gather in Port Douglas for two world-class events, which will be the first Trans-Tasman triathlon events on Australian soil since COVID-19 stopped international racing in March 2020.

The 2021 Oceania Standard Distance Championship will be held on Saturday 12 June, followed by the 2021 Oceania Sprint Cup on Saturday 26 June.

There will changed traffic conditions associated with hosting these events, which are detailed below.

Port Douglas Rd

  • Closed between Macrossan and Mahogany Streets.
  • Diversion in place via Mudlo St, Davidson St & Mahogany St.

The following streets will also be closed:

  • Mowbray St – between Port Douglas Road to the Esplanade
  • Esplanade
  • Macrossan St -between Esplanade & Port Douglas Road
  • Blake St – between Port Douglas Rd to Garrick St
  • Garrick St
  • Beryl St
  • Sand St

One-way traffic will be in place for:

  • Macrossan Street –between Wharf Street and Owen Street

*JUNE 12 – The closure time is expected to be no longer than 7am to 10.30am.

*JUNE 26 – The closure time is expected to be no longer than 8am to 11.30am.
