Council is inviting residents to take part in the upcoming Community Garage Sale, a shire-wide event that celebrates sustainability, reuse and community spirit.
Next month’s event is part of the national Garage Sale Trail and offers locals the perfect opportunity to declutter, make a little extra cash, and give pre-loved items a second life, all while connecting with neighbours in a fun, social setting.
Douglas Shire Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said the event was a “great way for people to be part of something bigger”.
“Instead of throwing things away, residents can help keep usable items out of landfill, find new homes for their treasures, and enjoy a relaxed, family-friendly day.”
“Residents, schools, community groups, and local businesses are all encouraged to book a stall and join the movement towards a more circular, waste-free Douglas Shire.”
Alongside the stalls, there’ll be plenty happening on the day from free entertainment for the kids and food stalls to creative reuse activities and the Waste to Wonder school art competition.
The Community Garage Sale is being held on November 8 at Mossman State School Sports Hall, the fun kicks off from 8am to midday.
