Waste Services North of Daintree River

Cow Bay Transfer Station Restrictions – Accepting Putrescible Waste only while Daintree Ferry out of action.

Restrictions have been applied to waste acceptance criteria at the Cow Bay Transfer Station.

The Transfer Station has limited storage capacity, so Council is requesting your assistance with the implementation of the below process while contingencies for continued waste collection services are being explored.

Until further notice waste disposal will be limited to putrescible waste only (organic, biodegradable solid waste that decomposes rapidly causing odours & attracting pests e.g. food scraps & household garbage,) – Recycling, landfill, metal, or any other waste types will not be accepted.

Disposal of putrescible waste from all residential properties that receive the kerbside waste collection or hold a Special Refuse Card will be accepted free of charge. This is extended to commercial properties that currently receive the kerbside waste collection service.

Please ensure that all other waste is separated from your food waste and kept on your premises

Please present your Special Refuse Card as usual if applicable. The Cow Bay Transfer Station will be open during standard operating times.

Your patience and compliance with directions when visiting the facility is appreciated.

Wheelie Bin Service

Due to the interruption to ferry services,  the scheduled wheelie bin service for properties north of the Daintree River will not be completed this Monday.

Collection services will recommence as soon as possible, so please stay tuned to Council’s social media and website for updates on when servicing will occur. Please note servicing days and times may vary from the original schedule as catch up services are completed.

It is recommended you still put your bins out by 6.00am as usual, if safe to do so and the bins are not at risk of being moved by windy conditions or washed away.

Please leave them out until they have been serviced or it is no longer safe to leave them out.

Ensure the bin lids are fully closed, especially during rainfall, to prevent collection issues.

Update from Australia Post

To coincide with the passenger resupply ferry service that DSC is providing from tomorrow, Australia Post has approved a portable collection point at the southern terminal on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 7.00am to 2.00pm where customers can collect their mail and send any outgoing mail. We will be near the covered information area next to the toilet block.

Mail and parcels can only be collected by the addressee or a member of the household or business the mail is addressed to.  ID or proof of address will be required to collect. In addition, only parcels able to be carried alone (no oversize parcels) can be taken on the passenger resupply ferry.  Alternative arrangements will need to be made, and these parcels will not be brought to the collection point.  Relevant customers will be notified accordingly.

Street post boxes (Red boxes) are currently closed as there is no means to empty them currently.  All outgoing mail must be handed to your local CPA (Rainforest Village or Mason’s) over the counter.

Those customers with private mail bags collecting from the portable collection point will need to bring their outgoing bag on arrival.

Any abuse towards our delivery team will not be tolerated and customers will be refused service if this occurs.

Any mail queries should be directed to Australia Post customer support as we do not have the facilities on site to complete investigations.

Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Prescription medication delivery process

  • Customers should call LiveLife Pharmacy Mossman to arrange their prescription: 4098 1242
  • Queensland Health will arrange transfer of the medication to the Diwan Health Clinic
  • Customers can then collect their medication from the Diwan Health Clinic
