Douglas Shire Council is upgrading drainage on Toll Gate Road and constructing a new turning bay. Construction is scheduled to begin on Monday, 26 October 2026.

Council’s contractor, MC Group QLD Pty Ltd (MCG), will deliver the works.

Project update

Following a review of the design, the project will include construction of a new turning bay. The amended design aims to provide a practical turnaround while minimising disturbance to mature trees and existing landscaping.

The works include:

  • installing new concrete box culverts and headwalls
  • constructing the new turning bay
  • reinstating driveway crossings affected by the works.

Drainage improvements

The project will address longstanding drainage issues on Toll Gate Road. Larger box culverts will improve water flow and help reduce road runoff and the risk of flooding to properties on the eastern side of the road. The existing open drainage channel will also be reshaped.

Driveways and other disturbed areas will be reinstated once the work is complete.

What to expect

  • Work hours: 7:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday
  • Expected completion: Late November 2026, weather permitting
  • Traffic control will be in place during the works.
  • Property access will be maintained, except for short periods when work is being carried out at individual driveways.
  • Some noise, dust and machinery movement can be expected during work hours.
  • MCG will liaise with Cleanaway and advise residents if work locations require any changes to bin collection.

Driveway access

If work is required at your driveway, MCG will contact you beforehand to discuss timing and any temporary access arrangements. Please let MCG know as early as possible if you have specific access needs so these can be planned for.
