Douglas Shire Council is upgrading the end of Toll Gate Road with a new Y-shaped turnaround area and improved drainage. The design preserves large trees where possible and resolves longstanding drainage issues.
What’s Happening
Construction is scheduled to start at the end of July and is estimated to take 10 weeks, finishing by mid October.
Phase 1 – Construction of the turnaround Y.
- A Y-shaped turning area replaces a traditional circle, saving space while allowing Cleanaway and other trucks to drive forward into one arm, then reverse into the other.
- This method suits trucks’ large turning radius and limited visibility.
- See drawing below.
Phase 2 – Address the drainage issues.
- Existing road pipe culverts will be replaced with larger box culverts under driveways to boost water flow and cut road runoff.
- This will reduce flooding risks for eastern-side properties
- The open channel will also be reshaped.
- Driveway work will disrupt access for a few days—residents get 24 hours’ notice to move vehicles, with full reinstatement after.
