ACTIVE8 Free Fitness classes are returning to the parks of Port Douglas for the first time since March.

As social distancing restrictions came into effect earlier this year, numerous Active8 classes were cancelled, while others moved online to continue helping Douglas Shire locals stay fit and active during isolation.

Tai Chi, Zumba and Just Start Fitness classes will return to their usual time slots and locations from next week, starting Monday June 8.

The return is in line with the Queensland Government’s easing of restrictions.

Douglas Shire Council’s Sports and Recreation Development Officer, Renee Ker said participants will notice a few extra measures to keep everyone safe.

“To help instructors adhere to social distancing rules and requirements for contact tracing, class sizes will be limited to 20 people (including the instructor) and bookings are essential,” she said.

“An additional Tai Chi class will be run at 10:15am to accommodate its popularity, within the restricted class sizes.

“It’s a beautiful time of year to be exercising outside and we’re thrilled to be able to bring the Port Douglas-based classes back into the fresh air.”

Participants are encouraged to assist instructors in keeping everyone safe by promptly departing after your class has concluded.

For a reminder of class times and to book, please visit Council’s website: douglas.qld.gov.au/active8

Due to the low number of availability, if you are unable to attend please cancel the reservation through the confirmation email/booking portal to enable another participant to attend.

The re-launch of Mossman based classes including Aquafit, Seniors Make a Splash and Seniors Movement and Parkour will continue to be revised.
