As the weather starts to cool and social distancing restrictions ease, it’s likely you’re missing camp trips and the opportunity to keep warm around a good camp fire with family and friends.

In recent week’s, Council has recorded a notable increase in fire and smoke related complaints from backyard fires.

Fires in residential areas can be a nuisance and we’d like to encourage people to be mindful of neighbours and those who live nearby.

Smoke irritation can be particularly harmful to people suffering from respiratory illnesses such as asthma and lung disease.

Under Council’s local laws, a person must not light or maintain a fire that causes smoke and is likely to cause irritation, annoyance or distress to others.
