Kubirri Aged Care Centre is located against a backdrop of the Mossman River with views over farmlands and mountains.
Douglas Shire Council has invested heavily in the project including securing more than $500,000 in funding for enabling infrastructure and waiving about $250,000 worth of infrastructure fees.
This helped with the construction of a new intersection with a turning lane, a new road into the facility, footpaths, drainage, water and sewer connections and a new substation.
The design of the building ensures that there will be many areas of natural light. For instance, there is an indoor veranda which will allow residents to stay dry in the wet season.
At the moment, the purchase of furniture and art work for the Centre is being finalised and the covered outdoor barbeque area is almost complete.
The spacious single rooms with en-suite facilities and communal areas are almost finished too.
The gardens are establishing well; the grass has been planted as have a number of trees and shrubs for residents and their family members to enjoy once the Centre opens.
A launch date of August 25 is still expected. Please take an opportunity to view some of the progress photos below.
