Daintree River Ferry Latest Update:

Sunday 29 March update:

Works are continuing on the ferry over the weekend with the installation of custom fabricated cable guideposts, dredging and ferry preparation activities.

As confirmed on Friday, Council looks forward to returning the ferry to full operation, including passengers, at 5am on Thursday 2nd of April.

Subject to progress across the remainder of the weekend and into early next week, any improvements to this timeline will be communicated as soon as possible.

The next update will be provided on Monday morning.

Friday 27 March update:

To assist businesses, residents and tourists planning their Easter and school holiday activities, Council is pleased to confirm that the ferry will be open as of Thursday 2 April at normal operating hours of 5:00am to midnight, with full passenger service to resume.

What comes next

Following the recent multiple flood events in March there is over 3000 cubic meters of material to dredge which will enable the ferry to operate in all tidal conditions. Dredging is scheduled to occur in the coming days for up to 19 hours a day.

Council is working towards an earlier opening date however this is subject to progress on dredging activities as well as other continued rectifications and approvals.

We will provide a further update on Sunday regarding any improvements to the planned Thursday reopening timeline.

Resupply Operations
To allow critical works to continue over the full scheduled hours, there will be no resupply operations over the weekend.

Passenger Ferry and Bus Service
The passenger ferry and bus service will continue to operate all weekend.
