Cape Tribulation Road update
Since recent wet weather, our crews are working hard to re-open the main road north of the Daintree River.
We appreciate the kind responses from many locals who understand everyone involved is doing their best in challenging times to meet the needs of the majority.
Please note – all sections of the route can close at short notice if adverse weather occurs.
NOAH’S RANGE:
- The road is currently open under escort to local traffic only.
- From Wednesday 17 January, the road will only be open from 7am to 7.30am, and 4pm to 4.30pm in both directions.
- Crews will be tackling one of the most complex and challenging clearing jobs on top of Noah’s Range.
- To successfully complete this tricky operation we need your help, and understanding, and mother nature on our side!
- These road conditions will be in place until it is safe to re-open further.
ALEXANDRA RANGE:
- Currently open from 6.45am to 5.15pm to local traffic only to allow for road inspection and the pack up of overnight traffic control devices.
- The road has a 25-tonne load limit and a maximum vehicle length of 12.5m for any type of vehicle (i.e, trailer, bus, truck).
- Our team is monitoring daily for changes to road condition.
- The Alexandra Range is under traffic lights and large sections are single lane. Please take caution.
DAINTREE FERRY:
- Open daily from 6am to 6pm.

EARLIER - Saturday 13 January 2024
11AM – Please be aware while the Daintree Ferry is operating at this stage, Alexandra Range and Noah’s Range will remain closed until at least Monday.A geo tech engineer will inspect the area and consider the impact of recent heavy rainfall.
When re-opened, the ferry allows access northern to limited local properties around Forest Creek and Cape Kimberley.
EARLIER- Friday 12 January 2024
Please be aware all roads north of the Daintree River are now CLOSED to all traffic due to heavy rainfall overnight.
The Daintree Ferry is now CLOSED and will open again as soon as it’s safe to do so.
OVERNIGHT
- 170mm rain recorded in the 24 hours to 6am today with another 86mm peak predicted by 1pm.
- Torrential rain overnight has caused further landslips and rock falls.
- Many main roads which were recently re-opened are now closed again.
Once the rainfall eases, Council will assess the roads and provide an update to the community.
