The Mayor’s Christmas Appeal has been launched with the fundraiser set to benefit dozens of struggling families and individuals during the festive season.

Up to 50 Christmas hampers will be purchased and shared with the community following the annual event.

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said every dollar raised would go towards buying essential items for people and families who are doing it tough.

“Over the past 12 months the rising cost of living has put extra pressure on our most vulnerable,” he said.

“Everyone deserves a special Christmas and we hope the hampers help families celebrate this festive season.

“The generosity displayed by the Douglas Shire community has played a huge part in the success of past appeals and we hope residents can dig deep again in 2023.”

Council works with Mossman Support Services, Mossman Elders Justice Group, Port Douglas Neighbourhood Centre, and Goobidi Bamanga Community Advancement Cooperative Society to deliver the appeal.

We also welcome back Quicksilver as a supporter of the appeal.
