DOUGLAS Shire Council’s role in enabling future development has been detailed in a draft Local Government Infrastructure Plan.
The proposed plan, which will be amended into the Douglas Shire Planning Scheme 2018, seeks to reflect future development and desired level of service for the community.
These services include water supply, sewerage, roads, parks and community infrastructure.
Douglas Mayor Julia Leu said it was now time for the public to have their say.
“Public consultation is the absolute key in getting the best out of this plan,” she said.
“This plan gives Council the ability to levy charges or impose trunk infrastructure conditions on future developments.”
“It also explains the costing and timing for delivering key Council services.”
The State Government reviewed the draft LGIP and public submissions can be made to Council until May 14 this year.
Council has applied an Interim Charges Policy for new developments since July 2015.
Priority infrastructure areas include Daintree, Wonga Beach, Newell Beach, Cooya Beach, Mossman and Port Douglas.
“Douglas Shire Council is strategically empowered to manage trunk infrastructure in an efficient and financially sustainable manner,” she said.
“This plan is a key enabler and seeks to get the best for our ratepayers.”
