The elected members of the new-look Douglas Shire Council have been confirmed following the March 16 local government elections.

The results have been declared by the Electoral Commission of Queensland, confirming Abigail Noli, Roy Zammataro, Damian Meadows and Michael Joseph Rees as councillors.

Crs Noli and Zammataro have been re-elected while it’ll be the first terms for Police Senior Sergeant Meadows and Cr Rees, who is a local business owner.

The Electoral Commission confirmed Cr Lisa Scomazzon would lead Council as Mayor yesterday.

Mayor Scomazzon said she was looking forward to working with the new team.

“I believe we have the right mix of Councillors for the upcoming four-year term,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

“Crs Noli and Zammataro have demonstrated their commitment to the community over many years and bring valuable local government experience to the team,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

“Crs Meadows and Rees might be newcomers to Council but they are already well-respected members of the Shire.”

Douglas Shire Council CEO Rachel Brophy said a formal Declaration of Office is tentatively scheduled for April 9.

“Congratulations to our elected members and thank you to all of the candidates who took part in this month’s elections,” Ms Brophy said.

“The upcoming term of Council is critical as we continue to lead the recovery following Cyclone Jasper. Council staff are looking forward to collaborating with Councillors to achieve the best outcomes for the community.”
