LOCAL builders are invited to lodge a tender submission to build a Safe Places Emergency Accommodation in Mossman.

Douglas Shire Council has released the design and construction tender to Vendor Panel, contacting local companies to make a bid for the project.

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said the project was opportunity for a local company to build a safe place for victims of domestic and family violence.

“Our local community has been working towards securing crisis accommodation in Douglas Shire for the past six years,” he said.

“Thanks to the hard work by Council officers in collaboration with community service organisations and the Federal Government, we are now building this facility and would like to give local companies a chance to be a part of it.

“At present, people have no option but to take temporary accommodation outside the region, away from family and friends and other support networks, which only compounds the cycle of domestic violence.”

Council has released a tender today to invite local home builders to prepare the final design based on preliminary drawings and construct the facility.

Local companies can register their interest by emailing procurement@douglas.qld.gov.au

A tender will be awarded by October 2021, and the facility constructed by May 2022.
