The first round of travellers has rolled into Mossman Golf Club’s new RV camping area.

Douglas Shire Council Mayor Michael Kerr visited the new 18-site RV park to officially tee off the club’s foray into the 2022 tourism season.

The new venture allows self-contained recreational vehicles to stay up to seven nights where they can play golf at discounted rates and enjoy the club’s bar and restaurant.

Mayor Kerr was joined by Club Captain John Carney, Secretary Pris Freeman, and Treasurer Cr Peter McKeown to check out the new facilities.

Mr Carney said the new park suited quiet RV travellers looking to explore the region and have a hit of golf.

“Campers will get great views of the cane fields and surrounding mountains at the doorstep to Mossman and the Daintree,” he said.

“We have daily happy hour specials, as well as discounted buggy hire and golfing rates to keep our guests entertained.”

The RV camping area is located at the rear boundary of the golf course at the Newell Beach turnoff, north of Mossman.

Council did drainage works and approved the new RV Park earlier this year, providing a discount on infrastructure charges and deferred payment to give the new venture the best chance to succeed.

Mayor Kerr said the park provided an additional revenue stream for the community club.

“Everyone wants to see the Mossman Golf Club thrive and continue to be an important part of the community,” he said.

“The new RV park has the potential to bring more visitors into Mossman and have them stay here longer.”

“Council would like to congratulate the golf club members and we are looking forward to see them hit a sweet spot with travellers this tourism season.”

Visitors can make a booking by calling 0438 581 269 from 7am – 6pm every day.
