Support for local youth centre

MOSSMAN Youth Centre will continue to provide a safe and inclusive space for young people in the sugarcane town.

Douglas Shire Council will offer a new five-year lease of two old shops at the Mossman Shire Hall to Douglas Shire Community Services Association (DSCSA) to operate the centre.

The youth centre has been at the site since 2011 with the aim of empowering youth to feel confident and connected as community members.

Council ensures boaties stay safe at sea

COUNCIL will offer another trustee permit to the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services to ensure a marine rescue service continues to operate out of Port Douglas.

The interim permit will be in place for the next 12 months, or until the transition of Marine Rescue Douglas Shire Inc (MRDS) to the Volunteer Marine Rescue Association Queensland (VMRAQ), is complete.

The State Government is currently completing the Bluewater Review, which hopes to develop a future vision for volunteer search and rescue in Queensland.

A MOSSMAN company will complete Stage 3 and 4 of the Principal Cycle Network at Cooya Beach.
