Excitement is building as Port Douglas Carnivale officially launches its 2021 program today.
The 16-page go to guide is now available for download with the printed version available from next week in key locations across Port Douglas, Cairns and the Atherton Tablelands.
Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said there was only three weeks to go until Port Douglas’ biggest party kicked off.
Mayor Kerr said some of Port Douglas’ most iconic natural assets would form the backdrop for the multiple events, including Rex Smeal Park with rock gods Spiderbait performing on Saturday, May 22.
“Events like this are not only a great source of community pride, they also support local jobs and bring social and economic benefits to the community.”
“We are expecting thousands of people across the 10 days attend the wide range of events on offer including the Street Parade, Longest Lunch, Family Beach Day, and the Wonderland Spiegeltent.”
Other community events such as the Paws & Claws Dogs’ Day Out, Tim Ellis Folk Stories Exhibition, the Douglas Dash, Twilight Markets, and Tropical Destinations Photography Exhibition are just some of the events that complete the program.
For the more adventurous there is even the opportunity to get out on the water to try everything from kite surfing to stand up paddle boarding for free.
Port Douglas Carnivale officially kicks off from Friday, May 21 to Sunday, May 23, with the Wonderland Spiegeltent opening one week earlier on Friday, May 14.
“I would like to thank event organisers, volunteers and the local community who help make this event happen each year,” Mayor Kerr added.
Entries are still open for the annual street parade and can be submitted online.
