Project Updates
May, 2022
This project has paused to enable Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads to complete road safety upgrades on Mossman Daintree Road which include roadworks past Newell Beach Road and reconfiguration of the Syndicate Road and Jones Street intersections.
Once these works have been completed the re-design of those sections of the Newell Beach Shared Pathway will be completed. At this stage Council is expecting the pathway design to be completed by December 2022.
December, 2021
The alignment for the continuation of the pathway north from Syndicate Road, along Mossman-Daintree Road, through to Newell Beach turnoff and then down Newell Beach Road to the Esplanade was completed earlier this year and detailed design almost completed.
Widening of Mossman-Daintree Road by Transport and Main Roads has meant we need to adjust the alignment and design and this is anticipated to be finalised by the end of February 2022.
Once detailed design is completed and we have a shovel ready project Council will apply for funds from the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program for construction. If our grant application is successful construction of shared pathway can commence in 2023.
January, 2021
A 2.5 metre wide shared pathway has been completed along Mossman-Daintree Road from Foxton Avenue through to just past Syndicate Road.
The alignment for the continuation of the pathway north from Syndicate Road, along Mossman-Daintree Road, through to Newell Beach turnoff and then down Newell Beach Road to the Esplanade has been completed by consultants. The entire route is separate from the road, similar to the first section.
The proposed alignment is being reviewed by Council officers and once approved, detailed design can commence. Once detailed design is finalised, Council will apply for funds from the Queensland Government’s Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program in order to complete construction.
SEPTEMBER, 2019
Council resolved to support an offer of 50% contribution in total project costs under the Queensland Government’s CNLGGP with Council contributing the additional funds required in its 2020-2021 budget. Read the full report, here.
Officers will also begin the design of the Mossman – Newell Beach by undertaking a feasibility study in preparation for the detailed design phase.
