Overview:
Additional new streetlights will be installed along Reef Street and Barrier Street, Port Douglas as shown below. There will be 12 new lights on Barrier Street and four new lights on Reef Street.
The new lights will eliminate dark spots on both roads.
Timing:
Installation of the street lights will commence mid-November 2023 and will be completed by the end of January 2024. Douglas Shire Council will manage the installation phase and once installed, ownership will transfer to Ergon Energy who will switch them on and take on the maintenance going forwards. At this stage, Ergon Energy has not provided a time frame for the lights to be operational.
Impacts During Installation:
Traffic control will be in place as required but we do not anticipate any major delays, and no streets will be closed off.
Some trees and/or plants on the verge may need to be trimmed to avoid obstructing the lights.
