Council will undertake additional inspections of trees in the vicinity of this afternoon’s tree fall incident in Port Douglas.

The incident on Macrossan Street occurred during a period of near-gale-force winds and wetter-than-usual conditions for the dry season.

Council crews attended the site this afternoon and removed the fallen tree and associated debris to make the area safe.

Mayor Lisa Scomazzon said her immediate thoughts were with the person injured in the incident.

“Our thoughts are with the person injured, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery following this frightening experience,” Mayor Scomazzon said.

“Community safety is our highest priority. As a precaution, Council officers will inspect nearby trees and assess the area for any potential risks.

“While incidents like this are uncommon, Council already maintains a regular and ongoing tree inspection and maintenance program across the shire.”

Council will provide further information as it becomes available.
