A large water main break was detected by Council crew at the Corner of Front Street & Johnston Street in Mossman around 11pm on Sunday, 1 December, 2019.
As a result, residents in Mossman and Newell Beach experienced a water outage between the hours of 11PM and 6AM.
Council crews have fixed the main break and have been working hard to rectify issues that have arisen as a result of the initial break.
During hot and dry weather conditions, soil moisture content changes and soils may shrink causing the movement of water pipelines and sometimes, even breakages.
After a water main break, Council officers flush the water mains to provide the best possible drinking water outcomes.
Air trapped in water lines following the flush presents itself as tiny air bubbles causing “milky” or “cloudy” water. This is completely harmless and will soon disappear as water settles.
