Whyanbeel Water Treatment Plant received a CIP clean yesterday which has resulted in a successful rise of production.

Mossman Water Treatment Plant continues to see a good production rate.

The efforts from the community in water conservation has made a difference to consumption and reservoir levels, thank you.

Mossman’s planned water interruption to upgrade water infrastructure on the corner of Johnson Road was completed early this morning.

Due to valving issues more properties lost water than originally planned. Crews reacted quickly to see the upgrade was a success.

Water Update: Tuesday, 12 March 2024
Mossman and Whyanbeel Reservoirs continue to rise in levels, this is great news.
A water main break did occur at Whyanbeel yesterday afternoon causing an outage in the Whyanbeel network. Crews addressed the break and managed to have repairs complete within a few hours. Incredible work by the team.
Heavy rainfall is forecasted for the coming weekend, this is a reminder that weather can effect the treatment plants production levels and level 4 water restrictions remain in place.

Please use water for drinking and hygiene purposes only.

High sediment levels in the catchment means the Whyanbeel Treatment Plant is currently not producing treated water.

The plant’s filter cartridges are being cleaned this morning, meaning the rate we can produce water will improve once operations are switched back on later today.

Forecast wet weather means we may continue to have interruptions to the plant over the next few days so please follow Level 4 restrictions.

Thank you for your water-saving efforts so far.

UPDATE: Tuesday, 5 March 2024
𝟗.𝟑𝟎𝐀𝐌

The Whyanbeel treatment plant operated without incident overnight and there’s been a gradual increase to reservoir levels.

However heavy rainfall is forecast for the rest of the week and that could trigger further disruptions to the treatment process (due to high levels of sediment clogging the system).

Please use water for drinking and hygiene purposes only – let’s build up our treated water supplies before the wet weather sets in!

UPDATE: Monday, 4 March 2024
Please use water for drinking and hygiene purposes only as water supplies are at a critical level.

High sediment levels in the water catchment have seen the Whyanbeel Water Treatment Plant close over the past few days.

The plant’s filtration cartridges underwent a clean today but with more than 100mm of rain forecast over the next five days (and possibly more in some areas) further disruptions to treated water production at Whyanbeel are likely.

Please be mindful of your water usage as per level 4 water restrictions. This includes not cleaning vehicles and boats or using water for cleaning of paved areas.
UPDATE: Friday, 1 March 2024
Mossman & Whyanbeel Water Treatment plants stopped producing last night due to heavy rainfall stirring up sediment at the intakes.
Both plants are back up and operating this morning with good production levels.
Port View Estate residents may still be experiencing low or no water, this is due to reservoir levels at the Rocky Point tank.
Water will be pumped to the reservoir to bring levels up later today.
UPDATE: 8:30am, February 29

Two leaks have been identified and repaired on the Whyanbeel network, one at Rocky Point and one at Miallo.

Some residents would have experienced a disruption to supply or not gained supply due to the leaks and repairs.

The heavy rainfall is disrupting production due to stirring up sediment and debris at the intake. Community members are asked to continue to conserve water.

Please report any suspected leaks on the water mains network to Council.

UPDATE: 5pm, February 28
Water continues to be pushed through the Whyanbeel network.
Some areas such as high locations may still be struggling to see a good supply. The hydrant at Rocky Point is now getting air and water coming through which is a good sign.
More water is being pushed towards Whyanbeel, as the supply was low.
A leak has been discovered at Miallo and is being repaired now.
If residents discover any further leaks please report them to council.
UPDATE: 4pm, February 27
Water is now being sent to all customers on the Whyanbeel scheme.
Crews are still searching for the leak.
Please report any leaks that may appear as water returns to the network so that repairs can commence.
Some customers will receive water sooner than others and pressure will vary until the full network is restored.
Disruptions may still occur depending on the location of the leak and to allow repair.
Please only use water for essential drinking and hygiene needs.
Showers and toilets remain available at the Mossman and Wonga caravan parks.
Council thanks you for your patience.
UPDATE: 10am, February 27

The Whyanbeel water treatment plant ran smoothly overnight and our water supplies are no longer critical.

We realise it has been a challenging few days but before we can restore water to your taps we need to identify the leaks that were draining supplies on Saturday.

Today our water crews are systematically working their way through the pipe network, turning valves on until breaks are identified and repairing them.

We’ll provide an update at 4pm.

+++

Supplies of drinking and non-potable water will be maintained at the Wonga Beach Rural Fire Brigade shed while the showers and toilets at the Wonga Beach Caravan Park and Mossman Swimming Pool are available to the public.

+++

Meanwhile our water team are also attending to a burst water main at the Killaloe Transfer Station.

UPDATE: 4pm, February 26
The Whyanbeel treatment plant’s production rate has increased significantly following a clean of its filtration system.
Council will begin feeding water into isolated parts of the network at a slow rate early tomorrow (Tuesday). This will enable us to identify any leaks.
Once a leak is identified and repaired, water will continue to flow through the network.
Further updates will be provided tomorrow morning as crews complete repairs.

The showers and toilets at Wonga Beach Caravan Park have been connected to a non-potable water supply and will be available to the public between 6am and 8pm.
The showers and toilets at Mossman Pool will be available during 6am and 7pm.
UPDATE: 10am, February 26

Reservoir levels continue to build and the team is fixing/cleaning the treatment plant’s filtration system.

However, this needs to be done slowly to avoid further leaks and while looking for existing network breaks.
The showers and toilets at Mossman Pool are available for use.
We understand this is a difficult time for the affected communities and Council is investigating options for additional treatment processes/fixing the current process, alternate water supplies and improvements to the water network.
UPDATE: 5pm, February 25

Wonga, Miallo, Whyanbeel, Rocky Point and surrounding areas will be without running water for 𝐀𝐓 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝟐𝟒 𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒.

If the Whyanbeel treatment plant is able to run throughout the night, there’ll be enough water to clean the plant’s filters and test some valves at the Rocky Point reservoir.

When the filters are clean the plant’s production rate will double and when water is pushed through the lines again we’ll be able to identify the leak that was reducing supply levels.

Council will continue to supply provide drinking water and non-potable water.
