Council will launch a free fitness program in Mossman and Port Douglas from mid-October made possible by funding from North Queensland Primary Health Network.

The free Active8 fitness programs focus on an entry-level of fitness with a separate seniors programs being delivered to the community.

Aquafit, Tai Chi, Park Zumba and Senior Movement & Parkour are just a few of the free programs on offer at various locations.

Douglas Shire Deputy Mayor Abigail Noli said the programs were designed to remove participation barriers such as cost, transport and fitness expectation with an emphasis on having fun.

“Session types and instructors have been carefully selected to ensure a vibrant program is delivered to the community,” she said.

“The fitness activities will be superb way of activating the space and creating a fun environment in a community facility.”

The Aqua Fit and Seniors Make a Splash programs will run at the Mossman Pool, which was re-opened under Council management earlier this week.

The programs will run for approximately 18 weeks from Tuesday 15 October, 2019.
