4.30pm
At around 10pm last night (July 10) the Daintree Ferry experienced a breakdown.
The part that failed was the ferry’s drive wheel chain. The drive wheel chain is similar to a huge, robust bike chain that is the key component in making the ferry move.
The ferry operator Entrada was able to source the part this morning and the installation was completed this afternoon. Services resumed at approximately 1pm.
Entrada will be back this evening investigating what caused the drive wheel chain to fail.
Council apologises for the inconvenience. This is the first major disruption to services since January, when the ferry was impacted by post-Cyclone Jasper flooding.
