Overview
Douglas Shire Council is seeking community feedback on whether there is support for commercial food and drink outlet/s at the Port Douglas Splash Park.
The Splash Park officially opened on 20 September 2025 and is located within a reserve dedicated to community purposes, including community facilities and parks and recreation. Since opening, Council has received enquiries from parties interested in establishing food and drink outlet/s at the site. Before any decisions are made, Council is inviting community input to understand whether this would be supported and in the broader public interest.
A community consultation process was undertaken in 2023 to determine the preferred location for the Splash Park, this feedback helped inform the final location of the facility.
Council is now seeking feedback on whether additional commercial activity, in the form of food and drink outlet/s, would be appropriate at this location.
Note: “Commercial activity” refers to privately operated businesses (not Council-run). The format of any outlet is not yet determined and could range from mobile vendors to more permanent structures, or potentially multiple outlets.
