Douglas Shire Council’s Biosecurity team has reported a Limnocharis incursion north of the Daintree River.

This is a first in the Daintree and the most northern incursion so far.

Council will be on the lookout for three invasive water weed species as part of its ongoing surveillance programs.

These water weeds are often found in backyard water features where people are unaware of the seriousness they pose to the native ecosystems throughout the Shire.

Council would like to encourage residents with a pond, water feature or dam to conduct a quick check to see if these weeds are there.

Follow the links above for more information.

These weeds are difficult to treat so prevention and early detection are the best control.

Please report suspected sightings to Council at 4099 9493 or 0419 772 261.
