“There is no doubt the retiree market loves the laid-back lifestyle and tropical community atmosphere that Port Douglas has to offer.

“We love to see this type of investment and confidence that helps bring people to our region, stimulate our economy and build Douglas up in the post-COVID era.”

The facility will be a gated community with dedicated management on site attending to the day to day operations. The proposal includes a mix of indoor and outdoor communal facilities including a clubhouse.

The house sites range from 200 square metres to 350 square metres in area and the house designs have been prepared for each allotment to give a mix of one and two bedroom dwellings that provide off street parking and private open space.

The nomination of house designs, which make up part of the suite of approved plans, ensures a functional and consistent built form across the development. The house designs are all single storey.

Rooftop pools approved for micro hotel

SMALL plunge pools will be added to the rooftop of a micro hotel development approved in December last year.

Douglas Shire Council today approved a minor change to the development approval to allow a recreational area to have two small plunge pools on top of the 36-room motel on Warner St.

The micro hotel is designed for a traveller with limited luggage and a desire to integrate into the community rather than retreat to the recreational areas in their hotel.

The design caters for younger tourists and travellers that also provides for all abilities access.
