Mowbray Street, Port Douglas has re-opened for public use.

UPDATE – 4 December 2023:

The Road closure and works will continue until close of business 6 December 2023.

Project Overview

Douglas Shire Council will be continuing with its upgrade of the stormwater system within the Warner Street and Mowbray Street drainage catchment in Port Douglas. This project will increase the capacity of the drainage network and enhance stormwater run-off by improving the efficiency of the system.

The upgrade will include the installation a new stormwater drainage system to link to existing infrastructure on Mowbray Street. The road crossing on Mowbray Street forms part of the infrastructure link required.

Road Detour – Mowbray Street (20 November to 4 December, 2023)

Contractors will implement a temporary road closure in Mowbray Street. The road closure will be in place from Monday 20 November to Monday 4 December 2023.

A detour via Owen Street and Grant Street is available to provide minimal impact to road users.

Access to Mowbray Street businesses

There will be Local Traffic Only signs up at Owen Street and Grant Street and local traffic will include those working or accessing businesses in Mowbray Street.

Detour signs will be in place to provide directions for drivers and businesses may wish to advise customers of the changed traffic conditions ahead of time.

Increased truck and equipment movements

For the duration of the work, there will be an increase in truck and heavy machinery movements in Mowbray Street. We encourage everyone, drivers and pedestrians to take care, be observant, and follow traffic control directions.
