A FORESHORE re-vegetation project at North Myall Beach in Cape Tribulation is one of eight recipients under the 2019-20 Council Grants Program.
Local not-for-profit Daintree Life, which has an aim to plant 500,000 trees by 2030, will share in $54,262 worth of grant funding awarded to local projects.
The group plans to plant 1,200 native plants on Myall Beach North foreshore to reduce the impacts of erosion and restore natural vegetation.
They have already planted 5843 plants in Douglas Shire to date.
Douglas Shire Council Mayor Julia Leu said the beach restoration project was just one of many strong local projects put forward by the community.
“Council is really excited about this grant funding that paves the way for community-driven improvements such as new artwork on public amenities, further development of the Call of the Running Tide event in preparation for 2021 and community art classes in Cow Bay,” she said.
“Another impressive idea was the creation of a ‘Daintree Food Trail’, which will help tap into the ‘low food miles’ trend that is emerging by creating an agritourism brand that identifies products and experiences in the Daintree.
“We would like to thank all applicants for their submissions and congratulate the recipients of this very competitive round of funding. We look forward to the outcomes of these community projects..”
Three marquees will also go to Port Douglas Outrigger Canoe Club, Mossman Squash and Tennis Club and Douglas Integrated Riders and Trailbuilders Club.
