The new Mayor and Councillors will take the declaration of office on Monday 8 April 2024 and residents are invited to witness the process.
The ceremony symbolises the official entry into the role for the five newly elected members. The Mayor and Councillors will make a declaration to faithfully fulfill their duties as a Councillor then sign a formal document known as the Declaration of Office.
To welcome the new Councillors, there will be a Smoking Ceremony by Traditional Owners.
It will be held at the Douglas Shire’s Administration Building, 64-66 Front Street, Mossman and will commence at 9:30am and conclude by 10:15am. After the ceremony, everyone is invited to stay for morning tea.
