NEW outdoor lights will keep the Mossman Pool open for longer when upgrades are completed later this year.

The lights, an all abilities access entrance to the pool building, pool repairs and beautification work feature in a $220,000 upgrade to the popular facility.

Douglas Shire Council has started works at the entrance of the pool, with further upgrades and rectification to get underway later this month.

To allow for pool repair work to be completed, the pool will be closed from Monday 17 May 2021 until Friday 25 June 2021.

Douglas Shire Mayor Michael Kerr said the new lights would allow the pool to be open earlier and close later.

“The new lights will give us more flexibility with the pool opening hours which have traditionally been restricted to times of sunlight,” he said.

“Once the new lights are installed, our local swimmers who want to do laps before or after work when everything is a little bit darker will be very pleased.

“We also look forward to giving the whole facility a bit of a freshen up with new paint job, landscaping, and pool entrance to be welcome by users.

“I would like to thank the community for their patience while we undertake this important work.”

Poolside seating will also be installed for parents who are watching their kids swim.

The project is 100% funded through the Queensland Government’s COVID-19 Works For Queensland Program.
